Castellnou de Seana is a small municipality in the Pla d'Urgell comarca of Lleida, and this fractional note belongs to the vast Republican emergency currency issued during the Civil War under the decree that authorized Catalan municipalities to produce their own small-denomination paper when coinage disappeared from circulation almost entirely after 1936. Hundreds of *ajuntaments* — many far smaller than Castellnou — commissioned local print shops to produce these notes, and Imprenta Sol in Lleida handled a significant number of them across the region.
Turró catalogues well over a thousand distinct municipal issues from Catalonia alone, which makes the series extraordinary in its fragmentation. Individual print runs for villages this size were typically tiny, and survival rates vary wildly.
