Cañete de las Torres is a small agricultural municipality in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia. This 25 céntimos note belongs to the enormous wave of locally issued emergency scrip — known as "moneda local" or "billetes municipales" — that flooded Republican-held Spain from mid-1936 onward, when the military uprising drained conventional coinage from circulation almost overnight. Municipalities, cooperatives, and even individual businesses were left to fill the gap themselves.
At 33 × 33 mm, this is among the smallest paper issues produced during the conflict — closer to a postage stamp than a banknote. The Gari Monetary catalog number 436-A suggests at least one variant exists within the type.
