Calzada de Calatrava is a small municipality in the province of Ciudad Real, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency fractional currency when coins vanished from circulation almost entirely — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These municipal vales were legal only within the issuing township, redeemable in theory once normal commerce resumed.

The Gari Mon reference is unassigned, which typically indicates the piece was uncatalogued at time of publication — not unusual for the smaller Castilian municipalities whose issues surfaced long after the main corpus was documented.
