Calasparra is a small municipality in Murcia, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ayuntamiento issued emergency fractional paper — centimos notes to cover the acute shortage of small coinage that the war had swallowed almost immediately. These local issues were legal only within the issuing municipality, making their actual circulation geography tiny, often no more than a few streets and market stalls.
