Burjasot is a small municipality immediately north of Valencia, and like hundreds of other Spanish towns during the Civil War, its municipal council issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation. The central Republican government never fully controlled this proliferation — local consejos issued what they needed, often with no formal authorization beyond their own desperation.
The Turró catalog documents this as a genuine Valencia Province emission. These hyper-local notes were rarely accepted beyond the issuing municipality's own market, and survival rates vary dramatically by town — Burjasot's issues are among the more elusive of the Valencia series.
