Almadenejos is a small municipality in Ciudad Real province, in the heart of the La Mancha mercury-mining region. During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone suffered an acute shortage of fractional coinage almost immediately after July 1936 — silver had been hoarded or melted, and the central government was slow to fill the gap. Hundreds of local councils across Republican Spain responded by issuing their own emergency paper, and Almadenejos was one of the smaller communities to do so.
The Gari Montllor reference number is unassigned, which typically means documentation on this specific emission is incomplete or the piece was recorded too late for full cataloguing. Given the village's size, the total issue was almost certainly very small.
