Alginet is a small municipality in the Valencia region, and like hundreds of Spanish Republican towns during the Civil War, it briefly became its own monetary authority out of necessity. The Comité de Enlace Ejecutivo was a joint executive committee of the anarcho-syndicalist CNT and the socialist UGT — an uneasy but functional wartime alliance between rival labor federations that controlled much of local economic life in Republican territory during 1937.
These municipal emergency issues were produced locally with whatever printing resources were available, which accounts for the wide variation in paper quality and impression consistency across surviving examples. The Gari Montaña catalog remains the primary reference for Valencian community issues of this type.
