Alcampel is a small municipality in the Huesca province of Aragon, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it issued its own emergency paper fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's metal coinage disappeared from circulation almost immediately in 1936. These municipal notes — collectively called "moneda local" or "billetes de necesidad" — were produced with whatever printing resources existed locally, which for a village of Alcampel's size meant very modest means indeed.
Provenance and survival rates for notes from villages this small are genuinely unpredictable. Production runs were tiny, redemption chaotic, and most were simply discarded once the war moved through the region.
