Ajofrín is a small municipality in Toledo province, and like hundreds of other Spanish towns it issued its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coins vanished from circulation almost entirely by mid-1936. Municipal councils, cooperatives, and local committees filled the gap with handstamped or lithographed cartones and papeletas — the Consejo Municipal series being among the most locally improvised of all such issues.

The Gari Monerris reference number is unassigned, suggesting this piece either postdates the catalog's compilation or was simply unknown to it at the time.
