Ababuj is a village in the Teruel province of Aragon — during the Spanish Civil War, Teruel became one of the most contested and destructive fronts of the conflict. The near-total collapse of the national banking system in Republican-held territories forced municipalities, including the smallest ones, to issue their own emergency fractional currency.
