Additional information

Venezuela's nickel coinage of the 1960s was produced during a period of relative democratic stability following the end of the Marcos Pérez Jiménez dictatorship in 1958. The 25 céntimos denomination had circulated in silver through much of the preceding century; the shift to nickel for these smaller fractional pieces reflected both global silver price pressures and the Betancourt-era monetary reforms aimed at modernizing the bolívar system. The Philadelphia Mint struck a significant portion of Venezuelan coinage during this decade, as the country's own Casa de la Moneda lacked sufficient capacity.
