Additional information

The Oran Chamber of Commerce began issuing aluminium necessity coinage after World War I when a chronic shortage of small-denomination French currency left Algeria's commercial centers functionally unable to make change. Chambers of commerce across French North Africa stepped into the gap, and Oran's issues circulated with genuine authority in local trade. These tokens were demonetized once the metropolitan supply chain normalized, which kept actual circulation periods short.

Aluminium struck poorly in quantity, and surface contact marks from even brief handling are nearly unavoidable on this type.
