Luxembourg's 1930 bronze coinage was struck during the reign of Grand Duchess Charlotte, whose position had been confirmed by a national referendum in 1919 — a direct response to a faction within the Chamber of Deputies that had briefly considered abolishing the monarchy altogether following the First World War. The vote came out 77% in her favor.
Production was handled by the Brussels mint, which struck the bulk of Luxembourg's coinage throughout the interwar period under a long-standing arrangement between the two countries.
