| 备注 |
The Nouveau Comptoir d'Escompte de Batna was one of dozens of local commercial associations across French Algeria that issued emergency small-change notes during 1915, when wartime metal requisitioning drained coinage from circulation almost completely. These were not bank notes in any formal sense — they were trade tokens on paper, backed by the collective credit of local merchants rather than any colonial monetary authority.
Batna, a garrison town in the Aurès region, saw particularly acute coin shortages given its role as a military staging point. Whether this specific issue was ever officially sanctioned by the Gouvernement Général is unclear.
