正面描述 The Guatemalan national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a resplendent quetzal bird perched atop a scroll inscribed with the independence date LIBERTAD 15 DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1821, flanked by crossed rifles and swords overlaid on laurel branches. The entire device is encircled by a wreath of olive and laurel branches. The circular legend REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA runs along the upper periphery, while the silver fineness 0.720 and the date of issue appear in the lower field separated by a dot. A beaded border frames the entire design.

附加信息

Guatemala's silver coinage of the 1950s was produced against the backdrop of the 1954 CIA-backed coup that ousted Jacobo Árbenz — one of the most consequential Cold War interventions in Latin America. The monetary system itself remained stable through the political rupture; the quetzal held its one-to-one parity with the U.S. dollar throughout the decade, a discipline that kept these coins in steady demand and circulation.

KM#258 continued a design lineage established in the 1940s with only minor modifications. The .720 fine silver content — identical to contemporary U.S. subsidiary coinage — was not accidental, reflecting Guatemala's dollar-pegged monetary policy under successive governments.
