Opmerkingen

The Banco Nacional Hondureño was a short-lived institution — it lost its concession in the early 1890s after failing to maintain adequate specie reserves, a chronic problem for private banks of issue operating in Central America during this period. Notes from this issuer are genuinely scarce, with most denominations rarely appearing in dealer stock.

American Bank Note Company printed the series in New York under its standard security engraving contracts of the era. Honduras relied almost entirely on foreign printers throughout the nineteenth century, having no domestic intaglio capacity whatsoever.
