25 Centésimos

The Banco Comercial de Corrientes operated in one of Argentina's most politically isolated provinces — Corrientes maintained its own currency well into the latter half of the nineteenth century, a function of its persistent friction with Buenos Aires and the slow, uneven integration of provincial banking into any national framework. This 25 centésimos note dates from 1867, the middle of the Paraguayan War, when Corrientes — having been invaded by Paraguayan forces in 1865 — was still absorbing the economic disruption of that occupation.

Local printing in Corrientes rather than Buenos Aires or abroad was not unusual for provincial issues of this period, but it kept production quality variable.
