Romania's 1952 coinage reform was a brutal monetary reset imposed under Soviet pressure, wiping out savings by exchanging old lei for new at punishing rates — 100 to 1 for most holdings, with strict caps on total conversion. The 25 bani was part of the first coinage issued under the Romanian People's Republic following that reform.
KM#85.1 is distinguished from its close variant by the absence of a star on the reverse. Both types circulated simultaneously, the star variety introduced the same year.
