25 Baisa - Qaboos

Qaboos bin Said came to power in 1970 after deposing his own father, Sultan Said bin Taimur, in a palace coup backed by British SAS operatives. The elder Said had kept Oman deliberately isolated — oil revenues existed, but schools, hospitals, and paved roads were nearly nonexistent. Qaboos's modernization program fundamentally restructured the economy, and the Central Bank of Oman, established in 1974, anchored a currency system built to project stability for foreign oil partners.

The Schön#53.2 designation reflects a revised subtype within the Qaboos baisa series — earlier versions differ in detail, making attribution to the correct subtype worth confirming against reference.
