Dyme was one of the twelve cities of the Achaean League, but by the time this coin was struck the city had been through catastrophic disruption — sacked by the Roman general Acilius Glabrio during the 146 BC campaign that ended the League, partially resettled with Italian refugees by Julius Caesar, and then caught up in the upheavals of the late Republican civil wars. The magistrate abbreviation C I A DVM on this issue is characteristic of the colonial coinage struck after Caesar's refoundation, placing its production squarely within the Triumviral period.
