The Tuvan People's Republic occupied an awkward political position throughout its existence — nominally independent but functioning as a Soviet satellite, its banking infrastructure closely mirrored USSR models. This 1940 issue came just one year before Tuva formally voted to join the Soviet Union in 1944, making the entire 1940 series among the last currency ever produced for the republic.
Tuvan notes from this period are genuinely scarce. The population was small, the monetary economy limited, and surviving examples in any condition are underrepresented in most collections.
