Obverse description The upper field displays the State Emblem of the Republic of Korea (대한민국), consisting of the taeguk symbol encircled by stylized hibiscus petals and surmounted by a five-pointed star, enclosed within a ribbon bearing the Hangul inscription '대한민국' (Republic of Korea). Below the emblem, three blossoming hibiscus flowers (mugunghwa), the national flower of Korea, spread across the lower field in high relief. A curved Hangul legend arcs along the left and right periphery reading '제24회 서울올림픽대회' (The 24th Seoul Olympic Games), while the date '1987' and the denomination '이만오천원' (25,000 Won) appear in the lower exergual area.
