Obverse description Central field features the national emblem of Mongolia — the Soyombo symbol surmounted by a pointed dome — enclosed within a circular cartouche bearing the cursive Cyrillic legend 'Монгол Банк' (Bank of Mongolia), the whole flanked on either side by vertical Traditional Mongolian script inscriptions. Below the emblem, a wreath of laurel branches frames the large numeral '25000' in ornate serif characters, with the Cyrillic denomination 'ТӨГРӨГ' beneath. The lower arc of the field carries the Latin legend 'MONGOLIA · 0.5 OZ. .999 GOLD · 1996·', denoting the coin's fineness and weight. The entire design is bordered by a reeded rim with a decorative inner tooth pattern.

Additional information

Issued the year Mongolia marked the 830th anniversary of Chinggis Khan's birth — a figure the Soviet-era government had actively suppressed in public commemoration for decades. After 1990, the newly independent state moved quickly to rehabilitate him as a national symbol, and this high-purity gold issue was among the earliest numismatic expressions of that shift in official policy.

The .999 fineness and 15.55g weight place this squarely in the half-troy-ounce bullion-adjacent category, though it was marketed as a collector piece rather than a bullion instrument.
