| 正面描述 | Central field features the national coat of arms of Dahomey, flanked on either side by the divided country name. The date of issue appears in the upper legend, while the denomination is inscribed below the arms. A hand-stamped serial number and fineness designation are applied near the rim, indicating individual certification. All legends are rendered in Latin script within a well-defined border. |

Dahomey issued this coin — along with a series of matching gold and silver pieces — to mark the tenth anniversary of independence from France in 1960. The series was never intended for circulation. It was produced for the international collector market, a common revenue strategy among newly independent African states in the early 1970s working through agencies like the Franklin Mint and BSGC.
The country ceased to exist under that name in 1975, when Mathieu Kérékou's Marxist-Leninist government renamed it the People's Republic of Benin.
