Obverse description Obverse of an 8 Reales cob (macuquina) of Spanish colonial origin, displaying the crowned quartered shield of Castile and León at center, with the denomination numeral '8' visible above. The irregular flan exhibits the characteristic rough, unstruck margins typical of South American cob coinage. A Portuguese royal 'MR' countermark (for Mozambique, applied under King José I) is struck prominently in the field, validating the piece for circulation at 2400 Réis. Portions of the original legend and assayer initial are partially visible around the periphery.
