Reverse description A colourised depiction of a stylised monkey holding a bunch of golden bananas occupies the right portion of the reverse, set against a vivid landscape of mountains, trees, and flowers beneath a rising sun. To the left, a vertical panel with horizontal striping displays the year 2016 prominently, alongside previous Monkey years 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, and 1956. The Chinese character for monkey (猿) appears at the upper centre, accompanied by the curved inscription YEAR OF THE MONKEY. Along the lower border, the word LUCKY is inscribed in large letters flanked by decorative golden motifs, with the specification Ag .999 1oz below.

Additional information

The Democratic Republic of Congo has been a prolific issuer of themed collector coins since the early 2000s, contracting European minting houses — primarily in Belgium and Austria — to produce silver rounds sold almost exclusively to overseas numismatic markets. The 2016 lunar issue falls squarely into that commercial program, timed to the Chinese Year of the Monkey and aimed at Asian collector demand.

Congo's domestic currency is the Congolese franc; the 240-franc denomination on this piece has no practical relationship to everyday commerce in Kinshasa.
