| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a vibrant full-color illustration of a stylized monkey hanging from a branch by one arm while clutching a red apple, with cherries and additional fruit visible in a lush green landscape background, rendered in colorized enamel. The Chinese character for monkey (猴) appears at the top center above the English legend YEAR OF THE MONKEY arcing along the upper rim. To the left, a black-and-white striped panel lists the year 2016 prominently alongside the previous Monkey years 2004, 1992, 1980, 1968, and 1956. The word HAPPY appears in bold letters along the lower portion of the design, flanked by decorative red ribbon motifs. The fineness and weight inscription Ag .999 1oz appears in the lower field below HAPPY. |

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has operated as a prolific issuer of collector-targeted silver since the late 1990s, producing themed issues with virtually no domestic circulation — currency reform in 1997 replaced the old zaïre with the franc, but the new monetary framework was never stable enough to support a functioning commemorative coin market internally. These pieces are minted entirely for export to foreign collectors, primarily through European distributors.
The Chinese lunar calendar series accounts for a significant share of DRC commemorative output. The Monkey year in question is 2016, corresponding to the Year of the Fire Monkey.
