The Democratic Republic of the Congo has operated a substantial numismatic program since the early 2000s, producing commemorative issues almost entirely for the collector export market rather than domestic circulation. This "Year of the Goat" piece is part of that output — Chinese lunar calendar themes struck in central Africa, destined almost exclusively for Asian and European collector markets. The DRC's mint authority contracts production through established European minting houses; no piece in this series has ever meaningfully circulated within the country.
