Obverse description Bare head of Sardus Pater facing left, rendered in a bold, slightly archaic provincial style typical of Sardinian civic bronzes of the late Roman Republican period. The portrait is modelled in high relief with broad facial features, short hair indicated by smooth contours, and a plain neck truncation. The circular Latin legend M ATIVS BALBVS PR surrounds the bust, identifying the issuing magistrate Marcus Atius Balbus in his capacity as praetor. The flan is broad and irregular, with the legend beginning at the upper left and running clockwise around the field.
