Obverse description Central device depicts the crowned bear of Anhalt passant to the right, wearing a collar with a ring, rendered in high relief atop a masonry wall that forms the lower portion of the field. A flowing ribbon banner arching across the upper field bears the Latin motto PERRUMPENDUM ('It must be broken through'), a heraldic device associated with the House of Anhalt. The coin has no peripheral legend on this side, the entire design being framed by a plain raised rim.
