The 24 Kreuzer denomination belongs squarely to the Kipper und Wipper crisis — one of the most destructive monetary episodes in German history, peaking precisely in 1621–1622. Dozens of small German states, including the Ernestine Saxon duchies, debased their silver coinage aggressively, clipping and revaluing coins while flooding circulation with overvalued small silver. The joint issue under John Casimir and John Ernest II reflects the co-rulership arrangement typical of partitioned Ernestine territories after generations of inheritance fragmentation.
By 1623, Imperial mandates forced a revaluation that wiped out holders of Kipper-era coinage almost overnight.
