Novodels — official restrike specimens produced by the Imperial Mint for collectors — occupy a strange category in Russian numismatics: they are genuine mint products, but made explicitly to satisfy cabinet demand rather than commerce. This particular piece is doubly unusual. The 24 kopeck denomination had a short run under Elizabeth, and this novodel was struck using an obverse die originally cut for the 5 rouble gold coinage, a cross-denomination die marriage that was either an administrative expedient or a deliberate curatorial decision by mint officials assembling presentation sets.
The KM#N10 reference places it firmly in the novodel sequence catalogued by Krause, though Russian specialists tend to defer to Bitkin for finer attribution within this series.
