背面描述 Eagle standing facing right with wings spread, rendered in bold relief occupying the majority of the reverse field. The bird is depicted with detailed feathering across the wings and body, its head turned slightly, conveying an authoritative imperial symbolism. The eagle stands on what appears to be a thunderbolt or ground line, a motif commonly associated with Jupiter and imperial Roman iconography. The reverse field is otherwise plain with no visible legend, and the flan shows the characteristic irregularity of hammered provincial bronze coinage.

附加信息

Panormus — modern Palermo — was one of the few Sicilian cities granted the privilege of issuing bronze coinage under Augustus, a right that reflected its status as a Roman colony formally refounded as Colonia Julia Augusta Panormus. The colonial designation appears in the mint's issues and was not merely honorific; it marked the settlement of Roman veterans there, almost certainly following the conclusion of the Sicilian campaign against Sextus Pompey in 36 BC.

RPC I 640 is among the scarcer Panormus types, with relatively few specimens recorded across major collections at the time of the RPC census.
