Cnossus retained the right to strike its own bronze coinage under Roman provincial administration, though by the 30s BC the city's autonomy was narrowing. The magistrate name ΜΕΝΙΣ — rendered in the genitive, identifying the issuing authority — appears on a small cluster of bronzes from this decade, making Menis one of the few late Cnossian officials identifiable by name from the archaeological record.
