| Beschrijving keerzijde | An eagle standing facing left, wings partially spread, perched above a thunderbolt or similar divine attribute, rendered in the Hellenistic tradition common to Macedonian civic bronzes. The Greek civic legend ΘΕΣΣΑΛΟΝΙΚΗΣ is disposed around the field, partially legible through patination, identifying the issuing city of Thessaloniki. The composition is typical of autonomous civic coinage struck by the city of Thessaloniki during the Macedonian and early Roman provincial periods. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, with characteristic hammer-strike fabric. Corrosion and surface deposits partially obscure secondary design elements in the lower field. |
