Obverse description Bare or lightly draped male bust facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic-Roman provincial style characteristic of late Republican Sicily. The portrait is set within a plain field, with the legend C CANINIVS IIVIR disposed around the periphery, identifying the issuing magistrate Gaius Caninius in his capacity as duovir. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, consistent with hammered provincial bronze coinage of the period. The portrait, though worn, displays naturalistic facial modeling with defined jaw and brow. The style reflects the cultural synthesis prevalent in Sicilian civic coinages under Roman oversight.
