Tingi, the ancient Mauretanian port on the Strait of Gibraltar, was one of the few North African cities granted the right to strike local bronze coinage under Roman oversight during the transitional years following Actium. The magistrates named on this issue — the duoviri — reflect the city's semi-autonomous civic administration, a status Tingi held as a Latin colony before Augustus formalized its arrangements later in his reign.
