Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Elector Frederick William I facing right, with short sideburns and a small moustache, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. The effigy displays a naturalistic portrait style typical of mid-19th century German state coinage. The circular legend reads FRIEDR. WILHELM I KURFÜRST VON HESSEN around the upper and lower periphery, separated by the truncation of the bust. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded rim.
