Anhalt-Bernburg's coinage in this period reflects the duchy's awkward political position within a consolidating Germany — small enough to lack meaningful monetary independence, yet still issuing under ducal authority until Alexander Charles died without heirs in 1863, at which point Bernburg was absorbed into Anhalt-Dessau.
