| Obverse description | Crowned and draped bust of King George V facing left, modelled by Edgar Bertram MacKennal, occupying the central field. The effigy depicts the king wearing the Imperial State Crown and robes of state with decorative collar detail rendered in fine relief. The peripheral legend reads GEORGIVS V REX IMPERATOR, disposed around the upper arc, with the initials B.M. appearing below the truncation. The design is framed by a fine toothed border running the full circumference. |

| Reverse description | The quartered arms of the Union of South Africa, surmounted by a Tudor crown, are centrally placed, with the four quarters depicting a figure with an anchor, an ox, an orange tree, and a Voortrekker wagon respectively. The date is divided by the shield, with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right of the escutcheon. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA and SUID AFRIKA arcs around the upper field, separated by a cross pattée, while the denomination 2 1/2 SHILLINGS is inscribed in the lower exergue. The engraver's initials K G appear at the base of the shield, and the design is enclosed by a beaded border. |
