Reverse description The quartered arms of the Union of South Africa, surmounted by a Tudor crown, are centrally placed, with the four quarters depicting a figure with an anchor, an ox, an orange tree, and a Voortrekker wagon respectively. The date is divided by the shield, with the first two digits to the left and the last two to the right of the escutcheon. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA and SUID AFRIKA arcs around the upper field, separated by a cross pattée, while the denomination 2 1/2 SHILLINGS is inscribed in the lower exergue. The engraver's initials K G appear at the base of the shield, and the design is enclosed by a beaded border.
