Biafra's coinage program was launched mid-secession, with these aluminium pieces struck in 1969 as the republic was losing ground militarily to Nigerian federal forces. The coins never achieved meaningful circulation — the war ended in January 1970 with Biafran surrender, and the currency was rendered void almost immediately. Most surviving examples come from hoards or collector distributions rather than genuine pocket wear.
