Keresidenan Lampung issued this note during the Indonesian National Revolution, when Dutch forces were pressing hard against Republican-held territory in Sumatra. Regional residencies were authorized to produce their own emergency currency precisely because central supply from Yogyakarta was unreliable under blockade conditions. Lampung's issues are among the more locally-produced of these regional notes — printed in Tandjungkarang itself rather than at any established facility.
The 2½ rupiah denomination follows the old Dutch-colonial fractional convention, carried over wholesale into Republican emergency issues. Survival rate is low; most circulated heavily in a wartime economy and were not preserved.
