Reverse description A crab viewed from above, rendered frontally and in high relief, with finely articulated legs and large claws extending symmetrically to either side, occupying the central field; below the crab, a fish is depicted in profile, held between the creature's lower appendages. The naturalistic rendering of both marine creatures is characteristic of the celebrated Akragantine coinage of the late fifth century BC. The design fills the flan entirely, contained within a raised circular border.
