Struck as part of the FAO's "Food for All" campaign, this piece was produced by mints worldwide in 1970 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization. Turkey's participation reflected its standing as a significant agricultural producer — wheat, in particular, had been a centerpiece of postwar Turkish economic planning, with state-directed cultivation programs running through the 1960s under successive five-year development plans.
Acmonital, an austenitic stainless steel alloy developed in Italy, was chosen by several participating nations for its resistance to corrosion in the field — practical for coins intended for circulation in rural economies.
