Obverse description Equestrian portrait of Emperor Maximilian I in full armour, shown in right profile atop a caparisoned horse in a prancing pose. The emperor holds a lance or sceptre upright in his right hand and bears the imperial eagle shield on his left arm. The date 1509 appears in the lower field beneath the horse. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with the circumferential Latin legend running within the outer border.
