De Javasche Bank's reliance on the American Bank Note Company during this period was a direct consequence of the First World War. The Netherlands' neutrality did not insulate its colonial banking infrastructure from the disruption of transatlantic shipping and the unavailability of European printers, and ABNC filled the gap for several Netherlands Indies issues in the late 1910s.
The 1919–1920 dating reflects a two-year issuance window rather than a single print run, and examples with differing signature combinations exist within the series. P#101 is among the scarcer ABNC-printed Javasche Bank notes to surface in collectible condition — the tropical climate of the Dutch East Indies was particularly destructive to paper currency in circulation.
