Above the hole, the Arabic denomination 'غرشان ونصف' (Two and a half piastres) arcs across the upper field with the numeral '2½' below it. The Latin denomination '2 PIASTRES 1/2' appears in bold lettering in the lower field, beneath which the date '1940' is given in both Western Arabic and Eastern Arabic-Indic numerals '١٩٤٠', separated by a raised dot. A milled border frames the design.
