| 正面描述 | The central field displays the Portuguese royal coat of arms in high relief, featuring the traditional escutcheon with the five bezants and castle border, surmounted by an elaborate manueline-style crown with foliate and floral ornamentation. The designer's name R. VASQUEZ and the mint name CASA DA MOEDA appear in small lettering below the shield. The circular legend reads PORTUGAL flanked by the denomination 2.5€ and the date 2021, all separated by raised dots, arranged around the periphery of the coin. |

This piece belongs to Portugal's ongoing Numismatic Treasures series, which reproduces historical Portuguese coinage types in gold as collector issues. The escudo of São Tomé — the island colony Portugal administered from the late fifteenth century — represents one of the more obscure branches of the early modern Portuguese monetary system, issued for a territory whose sugar economy briefly made it one of the wealthiest colonial possessions in the Atlantic world before Brazilian production eclipsed it entirely in the seventeenth century.
