| Obverse description | The obverse depicts a dramatic cloudscape filling the field, evoking the lyrical imagery of Latvian poet Eduards Veidenbaums. A facsimile signature of Eduards Veidenbaums curves in a semi-circle at the upper left, while the date 2017 appears on the right side of the central cloud formation. Along the lower portion of the coin, a line from Veidenbaums' verse reads 'Tiem vēlētos es līdzi tālu skriet…' (I'd love to follow them far away...), rendered in the coin's field as an integral part of the artistic composition. The overall design is executed in a pictorial, relief style characteristic of Latvian commemorative coinage. |
